We break the goal race down by distance, elevation, terrain type, climbing and descending load, technicality, aid-station spacing where available, and how those demands compare with races you have already completed. That way you can see if the race has a steep downhill gravel section. Knowing this you can then train with a more focussed approach and not in a generic "run some downhills" approach. The aim is not to say “yes” or “no” simplistically. It is to show which parts of the race are already familiar, which parts are new, and which gaps matter most.
