2. What data we collect
Account information
Your email address and name when you create an account or make a purchase.
Purchase information
Records of what you have purchased, the amount paid, and the date. Payment card details are processed directly by Stripe and are never stored by us.
Athlete details
For race readiness reports, we collect information you provide about your running history, goal races, and training background. This is used solely to prepare your report.
Training activity data
If you connect your Strava account or upload training files (Garmin FIT files), we process your activity data to provide coaching insights and plan analysis. You can disconnect Strava at any time from your account settings.
Race Explorer searches
We log the searches you run on Race Explorer. If you are signed in, the search is attached to your account so we can understand what races and features you are interested in. If you are not signed in, we still log the search text, but it is not linked to you personally — it is used only in aggregate to see what people are searching for.
Usage data
If you consent to marketing cookies, Google Analytics collects information about pages you visit, time spent on site, and general traffic patterns. Meta Pixel collects information about actions you take (such as adding a product to your cart or completing a purchase). Microsoft Clarity records anonymised session replays and heatmaps to help us understand how visitors use the site. See our Cookie Policy for details.
3. How we use your data
4. Third parties we share data with
Stripe Privacy policy ↗
Payment processing. Stripe handles all card data directly and is PCI DSS compliant. We share your email address and order amount with Stripe to process payments.
Supabase Privacy policy ↗
Database and authentication. Your account data and purchase records are stored on Supabase infrastructure, hosted in the EU.
Google Analytics Privacy policy ↗
Website traffic analysis, only with your consent. Google Analytics collects anonymised data about pages visited, session duration, and traffic sources. No personally identifiable information is sent to Google.
Meta (Facebook) Privacy policy ↗
Advertising and conversion tracking, only with your consent. Your email address is hashed (one-way encrypted) before being sent to Meta via their Conversions API.
Microsoft Clarity Privacy policy ↗
Session recording and heatmaps, only with your consent. Clarity records anonymised replays of user sessions and aggregated click/scroll heatmaps to help us improve the site experience. Microsoft may process this data on servers outside the UK/EEA under Standard Contractual Clauses.
Resend Privacy policy ↗
Transactional email delivery. We use Resend to send order confirmations and service notifications.
Strava Privacy policy ↗
Activity data, only if you connect your account. We read your training activities to provide coaching analysis. We do not write to your Strava account.
Vercel Privacy policy ↗
Website hosting. Your requests are processed through Vercel's infrastructure. IP addresses may be logged temporarily for security purposes.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party.
5. International transfers
Some of the third parties listed above may process data outside the UK or EEA. Where this occurs, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards to ensure your data is protected to UK GDPR standards.
6. Strava data
This section explains specifically how Tortoise Endurance uses information obtained through the Strava API. Connecting Strava is optional. We access your Strava data only after you choose to connect your account and approve the permissions shown by Strava.
What we collect
- Account and connection details: your Strava athlete ID, username, first and last name, the permissions you grant, connection and last-sync times, and the access and refresh tokens needed to maintain the connection.
- Activity details: activity ID, name, sport and activity type, date and time, elapsed and moving time, distance, elevation gain, and average and maximum speed.
- Training metrics: where available, average and maximum heart rate, cadence and power.
- Route data: where available, GPS coordinates, altitude and time points for an activity. Route data may reveal precise locations and regular training patterns.
- Derived insights: calculations we create from your Strava data, such as training volume, consistency, pace estimates, terrain and elevation profiles, and race-readiness indicators.
How we collect it
When you select “Connect Strava”, Strava asks you to authorise Tortoise Endurance using OAuth. Depending on the feature you use, we request permission to read your profile and activities, including activities whose visibility is set to “Followers” or “Only You”. We then retrieve the relevant data directly from the Strava API when you initiate a sync or use a Strava-connected feature. We never receive or store your Strava password, and we do not post activities or make changes to your Strava account.
Why we use it
We use this data to import and display your own training history to you; calculate personalised training, pacing, terrain and race-readiness insights; prepare the reports and coaching services you request; and, where you choose to use the feature, confirm that a race review is associated with a Strava athlete. We do not use Strava data for advertising, sell it, or use it to train a general-purpose artificial intelligence model.
Who can see it
Your Strava data and personalised results are shown only within your Tortoise Endurance account. They are not displayed to other users. Access is limited to you and authorised Tortoise Endurance personnel who need it to provide support, reports or coaching services. Our infrastructure providers process the data on our behalf as described in section 4. We do not disclose your Strava data to other third parties without your explicit consent unless required by law.
Storage and retention
Connection credentials are stored securely in our database and used only to communicate with Strava. Synced activity data and insights derived from it are stored with your Tortoise Endurance account for as long as needed to provide the connected features. You may delete individual imported activities from your activity history. Disconnecting Strava immediately stops future access and syncs and triggers permanent deletion of your connection credentials, imported Strava activities, route data, and derived personal insights. We confirm successful deletion in your account. If an infrastructure error prevents immediate completion, deletion is automatically retried and completed as soon as possible and no later than 30 days, unless the law requires us to retain particular information for longer.
Your choices and Strava’s role
You can withdraw Tortoise Endurance’s access at any time by disconnecting Strava in your Tortoise Endurance account settings or by revoking access in your Strava settings. You can request access to or deletion of the Strava data we hold by emailing support@tortoiseendurance.com. Strava may monitor and collect information about our use of its API and use that information for its own business purposes. Strava handles information under its Privacy Policy, which controls if it conflicts with this policy. You can also obtain a copy of your Strava data using Strava’s own bulk export tool.
7. Race Entry Transfers
Race Entry Transfers lets athletes list a race place they can no longer use ("have" listings) or a place they are looking for ("wanted" listings). We only facilitate matching — we do not process payment or verify that a transfer actually takes place.
If you post a "wanted" listing, you must confirm that you agree to your email address being shared with anyone who lists a matching race place, so that they can contact you directly to arrange the transfer. We only share your email for this specific purpose, and only once a matching listing appears. If you post a "have" listing, your email is never shown to other users; interested parties contact you through an on-site "Express interest" message, and your address is revealed to them only if you choose to reply.
You can remove your own listing at any time from your account, which stops any further matching or sharing associated with it.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ✓Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- ✓Rectification — Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- ✓Erasure — Ask us to delete your data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- ✓Restriction — Ask us to limit how we use your data while a dispute is resolved.
- ✓Portability — Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- ✓Object — Object to processing based on legitimate interest, including direct marketing.
- ✓Withdraw consent — Where processing is based on consent (e.g. marketing cookies), withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@tortoiseendurance.com. We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk), the UK supervisory authority for data protection.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and role-based access controls. Payment data is never stored on our servers — it is handled entirely by Stripe.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
